As the summer heat begins to fade and the first signs of fall settle across East Tennessee, the region takes on a personality of its own. From the excitement of Pigeon Forge to the history and cultural attractions of Knoxville, there is no shortage of things to see, places to explore, and experiences waiting to be discovered.
Will and I were invited to experience several attractions throughout Pigeon Forge and Knoxville during our recent fall visit. Located near the Great Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge has long been a destination for families, couples, and travelers looking for entertainment, dining, and mountain adventures. Perhaps its most recognizable attraction is Dolly Parton's Dollywood, but beyond the celebrated theme park lies an impressive collection of experiences that give visitors plenty of reasons to explore the area. A relatively short drive away, Knoxville offers a different atmosphere, blending history, architecture, entertainment, and a growing appreciation for the arts. Together, these destinations provide a combination of outdoor recreation, family-friendly attractions, and cultural experiences.
During our travels, we visited numerous locations throughout the region, many of which were featured in our earlier article, Finding Fall in East Tennessee: A Journey Through Sevierville, Knoxville, and Pigeon Forge, available through Chris & Will Press at chrisandwill.com.
This time, we're sharing four additional attractions that became memorable parts of our Tennessee adventure. Each offered something different, from friendly competition and arcade excitement to panoramic city views and a nighttime mountain coaster experience.
Our first stop was Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf in Pigeon Forge, where the experience began with something that can make all the difference during a busy travel schedule: a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
From the time we arrived until the moment we left, the staff made us feel appreciated as guests. We were ready for an enjoyable round of miniature golf, although none of us would claim to be particularly skilled at the game.
Our group of four decided to take on one of the attraction's more challenging courses, and let's just say our dreams of becoming miniature golf professionals didn't exactly come true. Not a single hole-in-one among us!
The attraction offers two courses with different layouts, allowing visitors to select the experience that appeals to them. We found our course challenging enough to keep everyone entertained, with creative obstacles and themed surroundings that made each hole interesting.
The staff even provided additional golf balls in case we lost one along the way. Thankfully, despite our questionable golfing abilities, we managed to keep track of them.
What impressed us most wasn't simply the golf itself. The course was clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by detailed theming that added to the overall experience. Combined with beautiful weather and accommodating employees, the visit became far more enjoyable than we had anticipated.
Sometimes an attraction doesn't need to be the biggest or most elaborate destination in town to leave a lasting impression. It simply needs to provide a welcoming environment where people can relax, laugh, and enjoy spending time together.
Chris and Will give Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf 10 out of 10 smiles for its entertaining atmosphere, creative course design, cleanliness, and exceptional hospitality.
Our next stop brought us to Rockin' Raceway Arcade, another Pigeon Forge attraction that proved to be an enjoyable break from our heavily scheduled day.
Stepping inside, we discovered an energetic arcade filled with gaming machines, prize opportunities, and activities that appealed to the different ages and interests within our group.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that video games aren't necessarily my favorite form of entertainment. However, with so many options available, even I found myself getting caught up in the excitement.
As the games continued and the tickets accumulated, our group managed to collect more than 32,000 tickets to exchange for prizes. Among our winnings were candy, a plush character resembling a stick of butter, complete with measurement markings, and an abundance of games we could enjoy together during a future game night.
Those little prizes became amusing souvenirs from an afternoon that turned out to be more entertaining than expected.
The arcade itself was clean and welcoming, with plenty of activities to keep our group occupied. Rather than feeling rushed to move on to our next scheduled attraction, we found ourselves spending additional time exploring what the location had to offer.
One of the qualities we appreciated most was the variety. Whether visitors enjoy traditional arcade games, competing for prizes, or simply watching others attempt to beat their high scores, there are opportunities for different personalities to find something enjoyable.
For us, Rockin' Raceway offered exactly what we needed at that moment: a chance to step away from a busy itinerary and enjoy some uncomplicated fun.
Chris and Will give Rockin' Raceway Arcade 10 out of 10 smiles for its variety of entertainment, clean environment, welcoming atmosphere, and ability to provide a much-needed break filled with laughter.

Leaving the excitement of Pigeon Forge behind for a little while, our travels took us to the Sunsphere in downtown Knoxville, where one of the city's most recognizable landmarks offered a completely different kind of experience.
Standing 266 feet tall in World's Fair Park, the Sunsphere remains one of Knoxville's most distinctive architectural features. Originally constructed for the 1982 World's Fair, the structure is topped by a gold-colored glass sphere that continues to symbolize an important chapter in the city's history.
For visitors unfamiliar with Knoxville, the Sunsphere provides an opportunity to see the city from a perspective that simply isn't possible at street level.
During our midday visit, we enjoyed the observation area, where large windows and designated viewing locations allowed us to look out across Knoxville and take in the surrounding scenery.
The elevated perspective provided a chance to appreciate the city's layout, architecture, and surrounding landscape while getting a better sense of the places we wanted to explore.
There was something surprisingly peaceful about the experience. Unlike attractions built around speed, competition, or excitement, the Sunsphere encourages visitors to slow down, take their time, and appreciate what surrounds them.
We enjoyed the gentle walk around the observation area, stopping at the different viewpoints and taking in the atmosphere.
Beyond the scenery, the historical connection to the 1982 World's Fair adds another layer of interest. The Sunsphere isn't simply an observation attraction; it is a piece of Knoxville's identity and a reminder of an event that helped shape the city's history.
For us, the attraction delivered exactly what we hoped it would: an enjoyable panoramic experience with a meaningful historical connection.
Chris and Will give the Knoxville Sunsphere 10 out of 10 smiles for its impressive views, relaxed atmosphere, and preservation of the spirit and history of the 1982 World's Fair.
Our final attraction brought us back to Pigeon Forge for an experience that combined two familiar mountain-town favorites: miniature golf and a mountain coaster.
Lost Mine Mountain Coaster & Mini Golf immediately caught our attention with its playful atmosphere and bear-inspired theming.
The attraction features an imaginative setting that carries throughout the property, from the general store to the miniature golf course and mountain coaster experience.
We started with the miniature golf, where a comparatively easygoing course provided a different experience from the more challenging adventure we had enjoyed earlier in our travels.
The bear-themed surroundings gave the course plenty of personality, with creative details that made the experience feel like more than simply moving a golf ball from one hole to another.
It was enjoyable, lighthearted, and an opportunity for our group to share a few more laughs.
But the real adventure was still ahead.
As evening settled across Pigeon Forge, we prepared to experience the Lost Mine Mountain Coaster, a ride that would take us through an elaborate mountain setting filled with scenery, elevation changes, and unexpected visual surprises.
Unlike a traditional roller coaster, a mountain coaster allows riders to experience the surrounding landscape while traveling along a winding track. Lost Mine adds its own personality through themed environments that create a sense of adventure throughout the journey.
As we traveled along the mountainside, there seemed to be something new to discover around nearly every turn. From rustic structures and themed details to sections surrounded by trees, the ride offered far more visually than we had expected.
Then came one of our favorite moments.
At one point along the journey, the scenery opened to reveal a beautiful view of Pigeon Forge illuminated against the evening sky.
Experiencing that view at night added something special to the attraction, creating a memorable combination of mountain scenery and the lights of the city below.
There is a certain beauty to Pigeon Forge after dark. The attractions take on a different appearance, the lights become part of the landscape, and experiences that might be enjoyable during the day can feel completely different in the evening.
Lost Mine captured that feeling particularly well.
The mountain coaster offered an enjoyable balance of excitement and scenic beauty, while the miniature golf and surrounding themed areas provided additional activities that made the location feel like a complete entertainment destination.
What could have been a simple stop for one ride became an experience we genuinely enjoyed from beginning to end.
Chris and Will give Lost Mine Mountain Coaster & Mini Golf 10 out of 10 smiles for its creative theming, enjoyable miniature golf, memorable coaster experience, and breathtaking nighttime views of Pigeon Forge.
Looking back on these four attractions, one of the things that stands out most isn't necessarily the number of games we played, the views we enjoyed, or even the excitement of riding through the mountains after dark.
It's the way we were treated throughout our visits.
As journalists and reviewers, Will and I have experienced a wide variety of attractions and destinations over the years. We understand that hospitality can influence an experience just as much as the attraction itself.
During these visits, we felt genuinely welcomed. The staff members we encountered were friendly, accommodating, and attentive without making us feel as though we were receiving special treatment because of our work.
We were simply visitors enjoying what East Tennessee had to offer, and that's precisely how we wanted the experience to feel.
Fall also added its own character to our travels. While our visit to the Sunsphere took place during the middle of the day, Knoxville offered an inviting setting for exploring as the evening approached. Back in Pigeon Forge, experiencing attractions after dark brought another dimension to the area's entertainment offerings.
Not every memorable travel experience has to involve an extravagant destination or a carefully planned adventure. Sometimes it's a round of miniature golf where nobody manages a hole-in-one, an arcade prize that makes everyone laugh, a quiet moment overlooking a city, or a mountain coaster revealing a beautiful view when you least expect it.
Those moments become part of the memories we carry home.
East Tennessee continues to offer a combination of attractions, hospitality, and experiences that make each visit different from the last.
Whether you're planning a family vacation, a weekend getaway, or simply looking for a new place to explore, Pigeon Forge and Knoxville provide plenty of opportunities to create memories of your own.
Our fall journey through East Tennessee included even more attractions, experiences, and unexpected discoveries, with additional coverage still to come.
